Off to a rocky start
Ich möchte heute den Anfang meines neuen Projektes mit Euch teilen,
welches ein Babyquilt in sanften rosa und grau Tönen. Die Farbwahl stammt von
der Mutter, die folgenden Quilt als Bespiel genannt hat. Das Muster selber
darf ich wählen.

I wanted to share with you the beginning of
my new project which is a baby quilt in soft grey and pink. Color choice came
from the mom who gave me this quilt as example which pattern the quilt will
have is up to me.

Also habe ich mich für einen Sampler mit 6 inch Blöcken entschieden
mit insgesamt 20 Blöcken. Aber als ich gestern den ersten Block genäht hatte,
haben die Nähte sich nicht getroffen und statt der eigentlichen 6,5 inch war
er dann nur 5,25 inch groß. Und dann hab ich mir den Block angeschaut und
gedacht dass er einfach winzig ist und hab mich gefragt, ob 8 inch Blöcke
nicht vielleicht besser wären.

So I decided on a 6” sampler with 20 blocks
but of course after I finished the first block yesterday the center point is
off and the block size is not 6.5” but rather 6.25”. And then I looked at the
block and thought gosh that is so tiny and started wondering if 8” block
wouldn’t be better.

Was meint Ihr? Der fertige Quilt soll ein Maß von ca. 40x51 inch
(100x130 cm) haben.

What do you think? The finished quilt is supposed
to be about 40x51 inches.

Eight inch blocks would give you the opportunity to use larger strips of your fabrics. And would show them off better. But this would also result in a much larger sampler quilt than you were planning. Your block looks fabulous Julia. You may want to check your 1/4" seam for accuracy if the block turned out a little too small.

Decided on 12 blocks with 8 inches, that'll work out perfectly for the quilt size.

Rosa- und Grautöne sind eine wirklich tolle Kombination - und tolle Stoffe hast du dir ja auch ausgesucht!
AntwortenLöschenWegen der Größe: Mhm. Schwer zu sagen. Ich find, beide Varianten haben ihre Vor- und Nachteile. Ich würde vermutlich das Nähen, das schneller von der Hand geht. ;)
Hihi! Ja, hab mich mittlerweile auch für die größeren Blöcke entschieden, das ist auch nicht so viel fummel Arbeit. :D Die Stoffe sind aus der Long Island Serie von Gütermann.

They would both work, but 6" does mean more blocks and smaller size. If you like that, stick with it! Either way will be gorgeous. And I agree with Lorna, just check your seam allowance and you'll do great!
