When in Rome...

Ich bin die letzten beiden Wochen etwas ruhig gewesen, da ich versucht habe ein UFO für meine Nichte fertig zu stellen. Aber nachdem ich mit dem Quilten begonnen hatte, musste ich einsehen, dass ich den Quilt vor Ende meines Urlaubes und vor meiner Heimreise wohl eh nicht mehr fertig bekomme. Deswegen habe ich eine kleine Pause eingelegt, da meine Woche Urlaub hektisch genug ist, ohne noch zusätzlichen Druck aufzubauen. Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob ich schon mal erwähnt habe, dass ich neben dem Quilten auch noch Geocache. Mit Geocaching im Hintergedanken habe ich meinen zweiten Urlaub diesen Sommer geplant und der sollte mich für einen Kurztrip nach Rom führen. Ich hätte mir allerdings keine schlechtere Zeit aussuchen können um nach Rom zu fahren. An allen größeren Attraktionen, die ich mir anschauen wollte, waren vor Ort Baustellen vor zu finden oder waren der Öffentlichkeit nicht vollständig zugänglich. Aber seht für Euch selbst.

I’ve been silent for the past two weeks largely due to the fact that I had planned to finish up the WIP I’ve been working on for my niece but when I started quilting I realized I won’t be able to finish it in my vacation and before my trip home anyway. So I took a short break as my week vacation was busy enough as it is, without putting additional pressure on myself. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it before but besides quilting, I also love to geocache. And with that in mind I had planned during my second week of summer vacation a trip to Rome. So in this post I am sharing some pictures I have taken during my short trip. Seriously I could not have picked a worse time to travel to Rome. All major sights I wanted to visit were either under construction or not entirely available to the public. But see for yourself.

Großzügigerweise haben sie einen Ersatz-Trevi-Brunnen aufgestellt, dass auch ja jeder Tourist brav seine Münze hinein werfen kann. OK, ich war da auch keine Ausnahme -  sicher ist sicher.

They generously put up a substitute Trevi fountain, so every tourist was still able to throw in his coin. OK, I admit, I was no exception – better safe than sorry.

4. Patchwork Markt in Liederbach

Heute berichte ich mal nicht über meine Projekte, sondern teile mit Euch ein paar Eindrücke des 4. Pachtwork Marktes in Liederbach. Mein Plan war eigentlich direkt morgens um 10 Uhr dort aufzuschlagen, hat aber nicht so ganz funktioniert. Als ich dann mit einer Stunde Verspätung vor Ort angekommen bin, war schon voll Haus. Das wollte ich eigentlich vermeiden, aber die Idee direkt morgens hin zu fahren hatte ich wohl nicht alleine. Hier dann jetzt ein paar Bilder.

Today I’m not reporting about my projects but about some impressions of the 4th Patchwork Market in Liederbach, Germany. My plan was to be there directly at 10 am which in the end did not work out as planned. When I arrived there one hour late the house was already packed. That was exactly what I had wanted to avoid, but apparently I was not the only one with the idea to be there at the very beginning. So here are some pictures from the market.

Leider hat meine Spiegelreflex heute gestreikt, aber ich denke man kann auf den Bildern trotzdem alles erkennen. Bei der Tombola hatte ich auch Glück und konnte einen Preis ergattern. Ein Kissen mit Tiermotiven.

Unfortunately my DSLR went on strike today, but I think your still able to see everything on the pictures. In the tombola I was lucky and was able to snatch a prize. A pillow with animal motifs.

Hier dann noch meine Stoff Ausbeute vom heutigen Tag. Zusätzlich dazu gab es dann endlich einen Quiltrahmen und noch ein wenig Quiltgarn.

Here my fabric pickings from today. Additionally to that I finally got myself a quilting frame and some yarn.

Mein erster Patchwork Mart und sicherlich auch nicht mein letzter. Stoffe noch und nöcher, hier sollte wirklich für jeden Geschmack was dabei gewesen sein. Genauso wie beim Zubehör: Schnallen, Reißverschlüsse, Garn, Rahmen und vieles, vieles mehr.

My first patchwork market and certainly not my last. Fabric in abundance, here everyone should be able to find something for his/her taste. Same goes for the accessories: zippers, yarn, quilting frames a lots more.

Frühchen Quilts für die St. Anna-Klinik in Wuppertal

So und heute ein kleiner Bericht womit ich mich in der letzten Woche zum Großteil beschäftigt habe. Im Patchwork- und Quiltforum gab es einen Aufruf für die St. Anna-Klinik in Wuppertal Quilts für die Frühchenstation zu nähen, die die Eltern und natürlich die neuen Erdenbürger bei Verlassen der Klinik mit nach Hause nehmen dürfen. Das fand ich eine tolle Idee. Meine Nichte was selber ein Frühchen mit unter 800 g Geburtsgewicht und die Eltern gehen während in dieser Phase ohnehin schon durch eine schwere Zeit. Da kann einem ein bunter Farbtupfer dann auch schon mal den Moment ein wenig aufhellen. Also hab ich mich gemeldet, denn Babystoffe hatte ich ja schließlich auch noch genug übrig. Wen die Aktion interessiert hier noch der direkte Link zum Thema. Hier nun also die ersten Ergebnisse.

Well I’ve seen quite a lot of international lurkers on the blog, so I’ve decided to make it easier for them and will write the blog both in German and English from now on. :D Just a short report what has largely kept me busy the last week. At the Patchwork- und Quiltforum was a call-up for the premature neonatal ward of St. Anna-Clinic in Wuppertal, Germany. The request was for small baby quilts for the premature babies which the parents would be able to take home with them along with the babies at the end of their stay. I thought it a great idea. My own niece was born prematurely with less than 800 g/1.7 lb. so I know that parents and relatives go through a hard time during the stay at the hospital. A spot of color in during that period can cheer you up and might make it a bit easier. So I’ve decided to join in. After all I had more than enough baby fabric left over from my recent baby quilts. For anyone who is interested in the project, here is the direct link to the topic. Here are the first results.

Für den Rücken habe ich einfachen gelb karierten Stoff verwendet, wie man auf den unteren beiden Bildern gut erkennen kann.

For the backside I’ve used simple yellow checkered fabric, as you can yee on the two pictures below.

So nun ist der gelb-grün Vorrat bis auf wenige Quadrate und ein wenig Border Stoff aufgebracht, aber einen dafür findet sich bestimmt noch eine Verwendung. ;-) Jetzt müssen sie nur noch in die Waschmaschine und dann können sie versendet werden. Ich freue mich.

Well my green and yellow stash is almost depleted now with the exception of just a few squares, for which I’m sure I’ll find some other use. ;-) Now the only the left to do is a good washing and they are ready for shipping. I’m so thrilled.
